How to Watch College Basketball Live

To watch college basketball live, find the exact matchup on the school's schedule, check its TV or streaming listing, then confirm that your service includes that broadcast. The channel can change between games, even when you're following the same team. The US viewing options below explain what to check during the regular season and when March Madness arrives.

TheTVApp is a browser-based sports site with a dedicated college basketball section. Available games are free to watch without a subscription; this is not a limited-time trial. Check the current listings before making plans, because availability varies. This guide focuses on men's college basketball, with a separate note on the women's NCAA tournament.

Find tonight's game by school and opponent

A search for “Wildcats basketball” can leave you with several schools and the wrong game. Use the full school name, opponent and date. Check whether the listing is for the men's or women's team, too. A familiar logo doesn't settle that question.

The school's athletics schedule is a useful first stop. Look for its TV or watch link beside the matchup, rather than relying on an old search result. Nonconference road games are worth checking individually; the home school's broadcast arrangements may differ from the ones you normally use.

Pay attention to the time-zone label. A listed 7 p.m. tipoff is only useful once you know which 7 p.m. it means. If you're watching outside the US, the local calendar date can differ as well.

“TBA” means the time or broadcaster still needs confirmation, not that the game has been canceled.

Pick a service around the games you follow

There isn't one channel for all NCAA basketball. Before buying a plan, take three or four upcoming games from your team's schedule and check each listing. That gives you a more useful answer than counting how many sports channels a package advertises.

For a game shown on CBS, Paramount's college basketball guide specifies the Paramount+ Premium plan for the live local CBS feed. Don't assume that a cheaper tier includes the same broadcast, or that CBS coverage includes games assigned to other networks.

Peacock's college basketball page lists coverage involving the Big Ten, Big East and Big 12. Check the particular matchup before subscribing. A conference appearing on a service's page doesn't mean every game involving one of its schools is there.

The ESPN app also needs a closer look. Opening the app is different from having access to everything inside it. Check the event's subscription or TV-provider requirement before tipoff. If you're comparing a live-TV package, confirm the actual channels in your plan and area, not just the presence of an ESPN logo.

These are US examples. Viewers elsewhere should check the broadcaster serving their country rather than treating an American channel list as worldwide coverage.

March Madness has its own viewing plan

Regular-season games, conference tournaments and the NCAA tournament are separate parts of the calendar. A service that worked throughout conference play may not cover your team's next postseason game.

For 2027, the NCAA's tournament announcement confirms 76-team fields for both Division I championships. The expanded Opening Round precedes the round of 64. Be careful with older guides that still describe the previous format.

The men's championship will air across CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV. The women's championship is carried by ESPN networks. Check the current bracket's broadcast listing for the game you want, including its day and start time; the two tournaments should not be treated as one interchangeable TV schedule.

Conference tournaments need their own check, too. And a postseason game labeled NIT is not an NCAA championship tournament game. Search the competition name along with the schools when the results are ambiguous.

Using TheTVApp on game night

TheTVApp is organized by sport, so start with the NCAAB category instead of scrolling through unrelated events. Look for your matchup and read its current status. If nothing is listed, don't take that as evidence that your team isn't playing; compare it with the school's schedule.

An available event can change or become unavailable. Nor does a listing guarantee a particular resolution or uninterrupted playback. If a stream stops, check whether the game has started, refresh once, and test your connection before repeatedly reopening the player. When a source remains unavailable, use the game's official broadcaster rather than chasing unfamiliar replacement sites.

For a wrong matchup or broken listing, use Contact Us and include the page address and approximate time. You don't need to send account passwords or payment information to describe a viewing problem.

Set up your screen before the opening tip

Open the game a little early and check sound, picture and your connection. On a phone, landscape view usually gives the court more room. For a television, check the broadcaster's supported app or casting options. A page working on your laptop doesn't establish that it will work in a TV browser.

Keep browser security protections enabled. Close unexpected advertising tabs, reject unfamiliar downloads, and avoid notification prompts that aren't needed for viewing. An HTTPS address alone doesn't verify every ad or third-party player on a page.

TheTVApp is separate from the leagues and broadcasters discussed here. Its About Us page explains the site's role. A familiar sports name on a page should never be mistaken for an official affiliation.

Questions before you watch

Can I watch college basketball without cable

Yes. Depending on the game, a broadcaster's streaming plan or a live-TV streaming package can provide access without traditional cable. Check the matchup first; buying one service does not automatically cover a school's entire season.

Does Paramount Plus show every March Madness game

No. Its CBS coverage does not include tournament games assigned to TBS, TNT or truTV. Check the network beside each matchup before choosing your viewing option.

Why is a different game still on at tipoff

The preceding broadcast may be running long. Check the network's live update for a delayed start or an alternate channel. Repeatedly refreshing won't change which game the broadcaster is showing.

Is a free preview the same as a free game

No. A preview or trial can end or require a paid plan later. Read its terms. TheTVApp's available games do not require a subscription, but that does not mean every college basketball game will be listed.

Keep the matchup handy

Save the school's schedule and note the broadcaster beside the next game. That small habit helps when a road trip, tournament round or late schedule change moves the coverage. Use the live sports schedule to check available events, then confirm the matchup and local tipoff before settling in.
